No, that will never be a consideration because it would leave everyone vulnerable to attack.
In reply to this comment by xxovercastxx: I seem to be finding more and more javascript-based embeds from the small sites, particularly MMA videos that I'm trying to sift or resurrect. Any chance VS will allow them in the future?
I typed an asterisk and then quality into the comment box. *quality
I tried to think of something else clever to say but nothing was coming to mind, so I sat and stared momentarily waiting, hoping for a revelation. I cringed as I was faced with the realization I'd have to give up hope and I pressed my keyboard's tab key highlighting the "submit new comment" button and watched the comment that was once so filled with potential appear below siftbot's comment ready for a never-ending stream of down-votes to be cast upon it.
You will get the message on every page load unless you dismiss it.
There's not enough room on that one line to explain that the votes don't count and it doesn't make sense to say that anyway until the user starts voting because it would just serve to influence people not to vote.
The ability to vote while logged out helps infinitely more than it hurts.
Without it, most all lurkers who visit might try to click on a vote arrow and get turned away by a big ugly register box, so their votes don't count anyway. But by offering people the gratifying feedback of a successful upvote, they are much more inclined to be converted to an actual member, adding lots of votes from first-time voters.
There is a message informing non-members that they are able to vote away. Then once they start voting there is a message telling them their votes don't count until they login.
The members who vote while logged out and then never, ever login again from the same computer are undoubtedly few and far between and a non-issue when compared to the enormous new user registrations anonymous voting helps earn.
Enormous congratulations to you Oxy! You've been one of the biggest pillars of Sift for years and every of your contributions is greatly appreciated. Happy 500!
Not to linger on what may be a sensitive issue, but isn't it incorrect to consider yourself someone who "used to" be an addict? I thought part of overcoming addiction was to accept that you are and will always be addicted and have to manage that addiction for the remainder of your life. Again, no need to carry on with this topic if it's undesirable, but I was just curious.
