A little about me...
There used to be more here but we all lost so much on 3/11. Placeholder: This Sifter is a citizen-soldier with a commercial pilot's license and a degree in history. I live in the best city of the world's third best country: Montreal, Canada. I am a pillar of Sift, but unsung, since I make too many comments that are cryptic and baffling and not enough that are zesty and sexy. I submit an awful lot of music, much of which takes a year to get sifted, because you are all philistines.

You just edit the embed to include a start=secs parameter, with the number of seconds into the video you want it to start. You have to do this for both (or at least the 2nd) url, the first one puts the red dot at the start point, the 2nd actually starts there.

The one you were looking at was:

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="500" height="401"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BtJuoAl8iWE?version=3&controls=1&fs=1&border=0&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&iv_load_policy
=3&loop=0&egm=0&rel=0&showsearch=0&start=90&modestbranding=0&showinfo=0&theme=dark"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BtJuoAl8iWE?version=3&controls=1&fs=1&border=0&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&iv_load_policy=3
&loop=0&egm=0&rel=0&showsearch=0&start=90&modestbranding=0&showinfo=0&theme=dark" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="500" height="401"/></object>

I don't normally put the start= in the middle like that, I normally put it after the theme=dark.

There are other options you can tweak, documented here:
http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/player_parameters.html

I found mention of a chrome thingy to do it for you if you use chrome:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/youtube-allows-you-to-start-playing-embed-video-at-specific-start-time/

Obviously pros and cons vs using lucky's vs submit one.

Now if you just want a segment out of the middle... then you have to use tubechop.

Opo, how'd you get the video embed with a specific start time? I thought that only worked with the URL.

Happy anniversary! Today marks year number 5 since you first became a Sifter and the community is better for having you. Thanks for your contributions!

Me too. I'm withdrawing and re-grouping for the moment, the scattergun approach of calling quality or promote hasn't worked out for this one. I think it has a rather niche target, or else people need to be persuaded that Deer Tick is a cool indie band and not just a sure fire way to get Lyme's disease

Thanks O! I'd love to see this thing hit 10!

Oh, don't kill it! Yours has its own charm. The visuals that have nothing to do with dogs or fish are actually quite lovely.

In reply to this comment by calvados:
I'd forgotten about the whole fishin' trip thing. Yes, your video is FAR better. Mine actually detracts from the song.

Let's let yours run on. I'm tempted to kill mine, actually, but the votes that would perish that way mean less renown for TCJ on Videosift. I wonder if I can fool Siftbot into thinking mine's a dupe of yours? Then the votes would be transferred over.

We sure do!

I didn't notice yours when I posted! Or if I did, I already forgot.... brain like swiss cheese lately.

Those were weird visuals on your posting. Started out great, but the timing was odd, wasn't it? Too quick on the fades. And what do fish have to do with anything?

I do love this song. I know EXACTLY where I was when I first heard the first notes of the Trinity Session CD. I was cleaved in two. Rooted. I think I stopped breathing. I know I stopped moving. It still gets to me.

We have good taste!

In reply to this comment by calvados:
Oh they'll both make it. But yes, I was reminded of TCJ thanks to you posting "Mining for Gold", which is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

I like it so much that I posted it awhile ago, actually. It should appear in your related videos. But I'm not fussed about it and yours is getting lots of views these days, which is all to the good, since the world needs more people who know the Cowboy Junkies. Your video for that song is superior to mine, too.

In reply to this comment by bareboards2:
So if your Blue Moon gets published and my Mining for Gold doesn't....

It'll be proof of no justice in the world.

Or proof of my taste in music is lacking.... I didn't sift this because I liked their original better. (You did find this after watching Mining for Gold, right? If not... then ignore this comment.)
