WONKA (2023 Movie) Trailer | Timothée Chalamet, Hugh Grant

newtboy says...

Why?
Who asked for this?

Can Hollywood either write or at least read some new stories, for adults, and not keep rehashing or prequelling classics…please? There’s plenty of excellent, unique books out there to draw from, and tons of history that seems more fantastical than the silliest fiction. Read some mythology, or old school fairy tales. Ancient religions are more interesting, action packed, gory, and full of unexpected twists than the best action movie ever…and done well you could teach people while entertaining them.
This looks like a bastardization of every feel good sugar sweet musical period piece in the last 20+ years. Not gonna downvote, but no thanks.

Boston Dynamics: New Robot Makes Soldiers Obsolete

poolcleaner says...

Is this the teaser for the Matrix prequel? He's comin' back with a robot posse. Allllll because of a robot dog.

Seriously, never fuck with someone's dog, man. You can kill their wife and MAYBE you'll be forgiven after years of therapy -- but someone's muthafuckin' dog? There's no therapy for that.

The Rise Of Skywalker

ChaosEngine says...

That's the hilarious thing with the new movies.

TFA came out and everyone complained that it was just an update of a New Hope.

TLJ came out and broke with tradition and a very vocal minority hated it (the movie still made over a billion dollars... you can't say that everyone hated it).

WWANRGLD? At what point was Lucas not rich? Before A New Hope (even then he already had a few successful movies under his belt)? or do you mean before he was ridiculously rich (prequels? disney buy out?)?

It's possible that Kylo Ren will be redeemed, but it'd be very predictable.

Payback said:

More likely...

Episode 1-6 was the rise, fall, and ultimate redemption of Anakin Skywalker.
Episodes 7-9 are the redemption of Ben Solo (his rise and fall seen through flashbacks).

Remember, Star Wars works best when people ask WWANRGLD?

(What would a not rich George Lucas do?)

Star Wars: Episode IX – Teaser

Mordhaus says...

Yeah, I thought the prequels damaged the series so bad it was done for me. I got sucked in because it really looked like they got 'it' with the first movie of this new trilogy.

Then...that horrible sequel...it simply killed the entire universe for me. I'm back to the only ones that count are the original trilogy. I won't even be watching this one on streaming or redbox.

I am so uninterested in Star Wars by now that I forgot a new one was going to come out.

Why George Lucas is NOT a bad director - A Visual Essay

ChaosEngine says...

I agree with everything he said... except for the last point.

The story of the prequels is boring and it's not directed in a visually interesting way.

Anakin's transformation into Vader is narratively clumsy and I'm not even sure you can entirely blame Christensen for his portrayal of Anakin, given the clunkiness of the script (blindingly obvious tip: if you're creating the guy who will become Space-Hitler, don't let people call him "Ani").

Lusas is undoubtedly a technical visionary, and he's certainly not a "bad" director, he's just not really good enough to be directing the biggest movies on the planet.

Fallout 76 – Official Teaser Trailer

Mekanikal says...

It's an old one. The date on the pip-boy says 2102, which is before Fallout 1. That makes this a prequel.

HugeJerk said:

I like that they worked in some of the elements of the original pip-boy into this one. The vacuum tubes and red buttons are a nice touch.

Mark Hamill : "He's not my Luke Skywalker"

ChaosEngine says...

I honestly don't know about Lucas.

He COULD be a Tolkien-esque visionary... or he could have taken a bunch of pre-existing elements (Kurosawa, Flash Gordon, the Dam Busters) and meshed them together and lucked out with an insanely talented group of people.

I don't want to write him off (I spent 20 years idolizing him from childhood to when I finally admitted how bad the prequels were).

But I also can't ignore the argument that much of what I love about Star Wars comes not from Lucas, but from Ralph McQuarrie's art, Ben Burtt's sound, John Williams' soundtrack (with a massive nod to Holst as well), Lawrence Kasdan's dialogue and the performances of Ford, Guinness and James Earl Jones.

MilkmanDan said:

LOL -- even if I somewhat agree with @ant, too.

Lucas maybe doesn't get enough credit for being a genius, Tolkien-esque "world creator".

Sure seems like he was at his best when he took that creative genius and paired it up with other people (NOT yes-men) to cover screenwriting duties (anything beyond broad-strokes, particularly dialog), directing, and probably casting etc. also. Given that, I breathed a sigh of relief when he sold to Disney. Star Wars wasn't going anywhere but down with him at the helm, but I like what Disney has done with it.

Then again, what do I know? His franchise to do with as he pleased. Just so happened that *I'm* also pleased with the net result...

It Came from the Desert (2017) Exclusive Teaser Trailer

transmorpher jokingly says...

Except now they have 6 legs. So it's kind of like a prequel

Payback said:

Meh, this whole idea was perfected with Eight Legged Freaks. I expect nothing new.

Also, that keg would have snapped that guy's head right off or at least pushed his faced around into his chest, not just give him a boo-boo and a headache.

Star Trek: Discovery - First Look Trailer

MilkmanDan says...

Hmm. I don't like the temporal setting, pre-TOS. As forward-thinking as TOS was for the 60s, bridge officers and brass clearly tended to be male. Now, pre-TOS, we've got a female Captain and 1st Officer on the same ship. Plus, Enterprise already tried the whole prequel thing and was generally not as warmly received as the other series.

Don't like the look of the Klingons. The whole Levodian flu thing was clearly a retcon to distinguish them from humans beyond bushy eyebrows and bronze makeup, but it was a definite improvement and set the standard going forward. Why mess with that?

The bit about "never being able to learn Vulcan" (language) made me jump to the conclusion that Sonequa Martin-Green's character was going to be a young Uhura. Guess that is wrong. She's looking foxy as hell though -- probably the best thing about the trailer in my opinion!

I guess I agree with a lot here that seem to have some doubts about this. Willing and hopeful to be proven wrong though!

Rogue One vs. The Force Awakens The Fault in Our Star Wars

Rogue One vs. The Force Awakens The Fault in Our Star Wars

Jinx says...

There is some nice action in the second half, but yeah, the ending failed to have any emotional impact apart from the wisecracking droid's demise. The scene with Vader at the end was also pretty ace too. Otherwise pretty bland, but at least it wasn't cringe like the prequels.

eric3579 said:

I think he was actually being quite kind to these films, especially Rogue One. Rogue One was a travesty. However, i did only watch the first half before i couldn't watch anymore.

Star Wars - The Last Jedi Trailer

gwiz665 says...

Well, I thought it was great. I have high hopes. R1 and Ep7 were both fine, hardly travesties. Both were miles ahead of the prequels. I am hoping this one breaks the mold a bit more, since Ep7 was essentially a retread with few new things to offer.
